My best friend Fox and I set out on our little adventure at 9am and as we drove the 6 hours to Ft. Worth my excitement grew. What was it going to be like? Were the seats any good? Should I take in the binoculars? Can you eat faster Fox, I wanna go now!! We got to the hotel and change into the t-shirts I had made special just for that night. They had my two websites on the back. Finally we were there, at the beautiful Bass Hall theater. As we were walking up to the door someone behind me mentioned my website so of course, I had to turned around and thank them. Dina, and I hope I’m spelling that right, told me she has been on my website and loved the countdown to Carol. I was so excited that someone recognized my website that I gave her a big ol hug. Dina, you made my night… well, you and Carol Burnett that is, ha! After the show a man asked me where I got the t-shirts Fox and I were wearing. I think he wanted to buy one, ha! I want that poster! As we went in the doors I noticed there was a great poster of Carol in the side walk stand in front of the theater. I would have loved to have it but by the time I got inside it was already gone. Even though the seating chart looked like the seats I bought would be good, I was thrilled to see for my self that my seats were only 5 rows from the stage. I couldn’t believe my good luck. I saw people carrying Carol’s book, or sketches of Carol and I started kicking myself for not bringing my book or even a printout of my website. Finally the lights dimmed and the curtain went up to reveal a movie screen. I thought how great it was to be in an audience who was laughing as loud as I was at clips that I had seen a million times. It was like seeing the clips for the first time. And then finally, the moment came. My childhood dream fulfilled as the legendary, vibrant, classy Ms. Carol Burnett walked onto the stage. I almost cried it was so poignant for me. Right there, just 5 rows away from me was my hero and idol. I was in heaven. Carol looked radiant in her shimmering black outfit. She was full of life and ready to entertain. I thought the show was a well balanced mix of video clips, questions and answers and hilarious stories. I watched Carol as she watched the clips and she laughed right along with the rest of us. I thought how privileged I was to be there in the same room with this living legend and to glimpse her enjoying herself. There was the cutest skit with Floyd the stage hand where Carol ask for a chair and Floyd brought her one, and she thanked him, and asked his name and then he brought out a table and she thanked him and then he brought out flowers and put them on the table and Carol thanked him and kissed him on the cheek. It was cute. Also there were a few updates as to what Carol is doing now. For instance, Carol is writing an anecdote book and has about 100 pages done. This should be an interesting book featuring stories about the famous and not so famous people Carol has encountered throughout her life. The show will be out on DVD again in about 8 or 10 months. There wasn’t any other details about who is producing the DVD’s or what seasons will be produced but I’m sure more info will come eventually. Some of the questions were confusing to me but most of them were very entertaining or touching. For instance: Would she do the Tarzan yell? Of course! There was a montage of clips at the beginning of the show of her doing the Tarzan yell but thankfully, someone asked her to do the yell for us. And after telling the hilarious story of how she was almost arrested doing the yell in a store, she did it for us and it was perfect! And also Carol talked about her grandmother and the development of the tugging of the ear. It was a sweet story. There was a guy in the back who asked Carol if she would get him out of the doghouse by accepting an invitation to his wedding… that was a year and a half ago. Carol laughed and said why sure. Behind me a wife kept asking her husband to stand up and ask a question and when he was finally able to ask it he surprised his wife by telling Carol that she (his wife) was a dancer and asked Carol to dance with her. Carol politely declined but the wife was happy just the same I think. There was a man who didn’t really have a question (that I recall) but wanted to let Carol know what a class act she was and still is. I have since gotten an email from that man and his name is Scott. Well Scott, you took the words right out of my mouth A lady in the back told Carol she had bought tickets months ago but then suffered a stroke and had to learn to walk again and she walked into the theater to see Carol Burnett. Carol was so touched by that she asked the lady to come back stage after the show. Good for her (the fan) and God Bless her. Finally, after stressing for over an hour (I could feel my blood pressure rising), I raised my hand to ask a question but when she looked my way I quickly lowered it. My one chance to learn if Ms. Burnett had ever been to my website and I blew it! I’m such a wuss. And then all too soon, it was over. The show was only an hour and a half but it could have been 10 hours and it wouldn’t have been enough. At the end they rolled a montage of clips of Carol singing her trademark song and as the clips faded out Carol raised her microphone and sang the last verse of the song. What a thrilled it was! As we were leaving I heard someone behind me say carolburnettfan.com Yeah, it was a perfect evening! Fox wrote of his adventure in a more poetic style. Check it out. |
