Beverly Sills
That was the name of a TV special that once joined Beverly Sills and Carol Burnett on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera — an unlikely pairing of a singer talking and a comedian singing that resulted in a friendship lasting three decades. Carol joined Beverly in a montage of songs during Beverly's farewell performance in 1980, and you can watch it on www.beverlysillsonline.com. You can also read a review of the show from the New York Archieves, 1981. Sadly, Ms. Sills died from cancer on July 2, 2007. Below is an interview Carol gave to NPR. Remembering 'Bubbles'With her bubbly personality and quick wit, it's no surprise that Sills became close friends with comedienne and actress Carol Burnett. The two performed together at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in a Television show called "Sills and Burnett at the Met," mixing music and comedy. Hear Burnett's remembrance of Sills, in conversation with Robert Siegel. (NPR)
