Excerpt - Jim Nabors tells the story in the episode on variety shows that he sat with Ball while she watched Carol Burnett rehearse a sketch for her show. Ball turned to Nabors and told him, "The kid's the best there is." Ball should know ---- Burnett was a guest on "The Lucy Show" and impressed the comedic legend so much that Ball offered Burnett her own sitcom. Burnett, knowing her own talents, turned down the offer and held out for her own variety show, a very wise decision. < read more > (thanks to Michele for the article)

Greatest TV Icons: According to TVLand and Entertainment Weekly magazine.Carol was ranked #6 out of 100! She's in really good company with the likes of Johnny Carson and Lucille Ball. It’s the source of a two-hour TV Land special airing Friday at 8 p.m. EST (and is also featured in the issue of Entertainment Weekly appearing on newsstands the same day). The special counts down from Larry Hagman (No. 50) to Carson, with mini-profiles of each “icon” in turn. Click here to see the whole list. (many thanks to my bestest friend Fox for sending me the link)

TVLand has a game where you can pick your own TV icons and compare it with other fans top picks. I was not surprised to see that Lucy and Carol were # 1 and #2 respectively. Click here to play the game.

Review: Great review of the American Masters Carol Burnett special in the Courier-Journal by Tom Dorsey! This is also where I got the great picture of Carol up above. (Many thanks to my best friend Fox for the link.)

Q&A With Carol Burnett: PBS interviewed Carol for the American Masters special gave me permission to post them here.

PBS:  Is there a question you always wished you’d be asked in an interview that you’d like to answer now?
CB:  I think I’ve been asked everything in the world.  There was one recently, in Texas, that I’d never been asked and I didn’t know how in the world I was going to answer it.  A woman in the balcony said, “If you could be a member of the opposite sex for 24 hours and then come back and be yourself, who would you be and what would you do?”  I thought, “I’m stuck, I have no idea. Would I want to be George Clooney or the cute one with the dimple?”  And I thought, okay, dear God, I’m going to open my mouth and just whatever comes out, comes out.  And I said, “I’d be Osama bin Laden, and I’d kill myself.”  The place exploded.

Another great entertainer has died. Robert Goulet, seen here with Carol and Julie Andrews, died Tuesday while awaiting a lung transplant. If you've ever heard him sing you know how beautiful his booming voice could be. When I was a kid I rushed out to buy the soundtrack to Camelot (the stage musical) just to hear him sing with Andrews. It was magical. Click here to read more. (many thanks to Michele for letting me know.)

That's 3 singers in a row (Sills, Pavoroti, Goulet), pray God that's the last of them for a while. The world needs their music!

Steve & Eydie: You were also frequent guests on “The Carol Burnett Show.” It must bring back great memories to see those shows again.

(Steve Lawrence) It’s great to see the reaction people have to these shows. They were a delight to do. Carol was the most terrific person in the world to work with. Her comedy skills were endless. She was able to get more out of a line than anybody I know. Carol, Eydie and I knew each other through the years. Our kids grew up together. The camera picked up we had a great respect and regard for one another. We had incredible comedy writers. We were able to take that great material and push it over the top. Steve & Eydie will be in concert October 26 and 27. Click here to read the entire interview.

Under the category, are you serious?!: Don’t hold your breath waiting for Carol Burnett to play Michael’s mama. Although the Office creator considered hiring her to play the plum part, when asked about it at press tour, he acknowledged that her status as a TV legend might prove a distraction for viewers. “The thing I’m a little worried about,” he said, “is she’s so famous.” Greg Daniels has dashed our hopes, according to Michael Ausiello.

The former MONTY PYTHON star will join Burnett for the play, in which she has starred alongside TOM SELLECK, CHARLTON HESTON and LESLIE NIELSEN, later this year (07). BURNETT TELLS TALES ABOUT MOVIE GREATS

Comedienne CAROL BURNETT is set to tell tales about Hollywood's movie icons in a new anecdotal book. The actress started scribbling down favourite memories for pleasure and now she's got enough to put together a book. She says, "I have kind of developed stories about some of these things that people have asked me about, and I've decided to put them on paper, and a lot of them are really funny. "Things like when I first met Cary Grant and when I first met Jimmy Stewart, my dealings with Walter Matthau, so forth and so on... I'm having fun doing that. (contactmusic.com)

My deepest sympathys: Beverly Sills has died after a brave battle with cancer. In my opinion she was one of the greatest opera singers to grace this earth and with the greatest personality. Thank you Ms. Sills for adding class to this world. < The New York Times has a wonderful tribute to her - read the artilce >

Regarding the lawsuit: While I can appreciate that the Family Guy fans are upset by the lawsuit I can also appreciate how Ms. Burnett was upset by the "spoof" and seeks to protect her trademarks as any of us would do. My website is for the fans, I have absolutely no connections with Ms. Burnett and slamming me and trying to post hateful messages on my guestbook will get you no where. If you want to vent try the IMDb boards.

Click here to see the clip and read the complaint. After watching the clip I don't blame Ms. Burnett at all for suing. It was vicious and mean and it was meant to be.

Carol is shown the doorIn the news: Carol Burnett receives a door during a ceremony at the Pacific Hollywood Theatre. She was fired as an usherette in one of the old movie palaces in Hollywood. Years later, when they asked her where she wanted her Hollywood Star of Fame placed, she chose in front of that old theatre. Today the theatre is closed down so when Carol moved to Montecito and began remodeling her home, she asked the owners if she could have the door where the firing had taken place. They gave it to her and it is now the door to her home theatre. (Many thanks to my best friend Fox for sending me the pic)

News: Carol Burnett: A 'Desperate' Dream Girl?

The women of Wisteria have had a number of notable visitors since their "Desperate" debut, but creator Marc Cherry told Access Hollywood's Shaun Robinson who his dream guest star would be.

"My dream is to get someone like Carol Burnett on the show," Cherry revealed.

He added that he has "talked to Carol's people" and that they are trying to work something out.

Cherry stresses the fact that he does not want Burnett to play an expected role and would "want her to be kind of malignant, kind of evil, to make her go away from her normal persona."

"I think she is up for it. I just think it's about us finding the right part for her at this point," the "Desperate" mastermind added.
